WHAT IS YOUR WHY?

Has God called you to serve Him in a specific way? Do you believe you have something to offer that is special? AWESOME! But before you venture out, take a minute to get on your knees before Him and ask Him to help you understand your “Why”.

Is your motivation to bring glory to Him or to you? Are you anxious to hear the crowds praise Him or you?

When Jesus rode into town on a donkey on Good Friday, the crowds were yelling and cheering and throwing their cloaks down on the ground like they would for a king…and Jesus wasn’t phased by it. 24 hours later, they were calling for His execution…and Jesus wasn’t phased by it. That’s not why He came. He came to show us more love than any human being could ever show. His motivation was pure and simple…love.

We live in a culture where being seen is more important than making Him seen and that’s wrong. We live in a “me” culture where everything we do is supposed to shine at least part of the light on ourselves. But why?

“Didn’t I write the blog post that brought those people to their knees? Then again, was the post really mine, or was it inspired by Him? And if it’s inspired by Him, do I deserve any credit?”

If it’s inspired by Him and my motivation is pure, why would I want any credit?

My place in this story is to shine the light on Him, to make Him known, to show others the way to HIM, not to me. My part in this story will end one day, but His…His will go on for eternity!

We’ve let ourselves get drawn into a mentality that draws our attention away from Christ by pretending that we’re doing His work… so we can draw attention to ourselves… and that’s really messed up!

So this Easter, as we remember what HE did for us, let’s double check our hearts and our motivations and make sure we’re pointing people in the right direction. TO HIM!

  1. This is such an inspiring post! I love the reminder to check our motivations and ensure that we are shining the light on Him, not ourselves. It’s so easy to get caught up in the “me” culture we live in. My question for you is, what practical steps can we take to ensure that our motivations are pure and we are truly pointing others towards Him? Thank you for this thought-provoking post.

    1. Thank you for the encouraging comments!
To answer your question, I believe there are a lot of practical steps we can take to ensure our motivations are pure. I think those steps largely depend on the person and their situation, but my first step is always to pray and ask God to help me search my heart for why I’m doing something, especially when it comes to my ministry. I want desperately for my life and work to bring Him glory!
